Sep 4, 2017E. Brown Sons Funeral Home receives beautification award Potter’s Park at F.E. Brown Sons Funeral Home Inc., 6575 E. Quaker St., has been named the recipient of the December Business Community Beautification Award by the Orchard Park Chamber of Commerce. The selection committee, chaired by Joseph Wales of W.G. Arthur Co., chose the property because it has enhanced the business community and is an asset to Orchard Park, a release said.Potter’s Park was the result of a dream that turned into a passionate pursuit by owner Timothy Gardner. The “forest” offers peace and tranquility to grieving families, and a space that is different from the cookie-cutter illustration of funeral services, according to the release.Potter’s Park provides a place to have coffee at 8 a.m. or wine at 5 p.m., a family photo shoot, the union of two people, personalized life celebrations (funerals) or music. Many of the construction materials used in Potter’s Park are recycled and repurposed. The 572 tons of topsoil contained within the walls came from the excavation of the St. Francis High School football field. The limestone boulders used to shore up the western boundary were recycled from the Buffalo Zoo polar bear dens. The black locust fence posts were harvested and milled at the Joseph Vigneron Farm, the oldest working farm in the area, and the 2,700 feet of Civil War era-style larch rails were made by the Amish. There are 200 tons of granite boulders from Springville, 409 tons of drain stone used for the walls, 15 tons of Banas Stone that make up the patio, and the finishing touch includes 95 different plantings. If you would like to nominate a business that has made improvements to its facility, submit its name to the Chamber. The next award will be presented in March. (Bee news.com)
